About This Project
This project came about as a cooperative effort between the Livingston County Library, Main Street Chillicothe, the Grand River Museum, and the Livingston County Preservation Society. Several people came to the Library seeking information on particular buildings to highlight and promote our town's history. The Livingston County Library houses a lot of historical materials and completed the research for these projects. This research provided the background to launch a downtown historic walking tour and this website provided a way to share it with the public. The Library was willing to have staff spend the time to bring this to fruition. Any pictures here without citations came from the Library's archives and other provenience was not available. Main Street Chillicothe used some of the research to make videos for This Place Matters, Preservation Month, in May of 2018 and 2019. The Grand River Museum has loads of amazing photographs that it shared freely. Livingston County Preservation Society provided some of the research. Where appropriate, further information provided by the community have been noted as such; we appreciate their input!
A big thank you to Jim JOnes, Danny Batson, and Robert Pigg for sharing their photos.
We would be remiss for not also mentioning the help with design and function of Amy Dickerson and Michelle Brooks.
A big thank you to to all who helped make this happen.
